The Future of the Ocean
Dir. Mario Cuesta Hernando
Spain
The oceans are going through a critical moment for their future. The problems arising from overfishing, the health of marine habitats, or pollution require immediate attention. Only science can provide answers to these threats and, for this reason, the UN has declared the Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development. In Spain, the Spanish institute of Oceanography leads this race against time to ensure a future where the ocean and human beings can live in balance.

Planet Soil
Dir. Mark Verkerk
Netherlands
Planet Soil makes the unseen seen. The film inspires and amazes and gives insight into the world beneath our feet. Besides the world above ground populated by plants, insects and birds, but especially by humans, there is a second world : an underground community of roots, larvae, worms, fungi, bacteria, amoebas and arthropods. The existence of this world will not surprise anyone, but the fact that all the life in that microcosm is busily communicating with each other is nothing short of astonishing.

Is our Future on water ?
Dir. Xavier Marquis

Faced with this challenge, architects, scientist and engineers have developed solutions that seem to have some straight out of science fiction : building resilient floating cites that would keep pace with rising sea levels and interact hrmoniously with the oceans, rethinking food and energy production.
